THE STUART SISTERS
Performing Arts Segment
The Stuart Sisters are the performing arts segment of The Spring Nursery School of the Arts. They grew up in West Philadelphia in a neighborhood called "Down The Way" and were close to the museums and other cultural and arts centers throughout the city. Their parents made sure they were involved in many of these educational experiences.
The Stuart Sisters' "History-telling Theatre" was conceived because of the necessity to inform children and adults, of all races, of the heritage of the African-American people. Knowing that theatre and the media are tremdous vehicles for influencing minds, The Stuart Sisters found that this medium teaches, builds self-esteem, and transfers history.
The Stuart Sisters have performed across the United States and Canada, spreading their concept of "LearningThrough the Arts." These artists/educators have written and produced several productions and continue to conduct workshops, concerts, and appearances in festivals, museums, libraries, universities, churches, grade schools, and civic organizations.
